Cherry Blossoms 2013

Cherry blossom season is long gone by now, and I'm finally getting a chance to blog a little about it!

This year the cherry blossoms were really late. As in super duper, I wonder if they're just going to freeze off and not bloom this year late, since it was so unseasonably cold here right up until the very end of March. Finally, though, they started to pop out, and of course I ran straight out with my camera and took eleventy billion photos of them.

I love it when the trees are still full of clusters of really tight buds, with just one or two that have fully bloomed.

back to the gardens

I have fallen so behind on getting photos blogged, and it's time to fix that! I'll be trying to post here more often and bouncing between more current photos and some from the last 8+ months that I haven't posted yet. Posting is how I remember those little details, and I need to make more time for it! :)

A few weeks ago I went from working a 30 hour week with a 5 day, 6 hour per day schedule to working 40 hours with a 4 day, 10 hour per day schedule. I admit that it's been a little hard to adjust to the much longer days than I was previously used to (don't get me wrong, it's nice to be needed!), but one of the big perks? I have every Friday off! Darren was in South Africa on a mission trip for my first two off Fridays, and I mostly stuck around the house trying to get caught up a few things. This last Friday, though, we took a little time in the middle of the day to visit the Botanical Gardens! We hadn't gone in ages, and it was so awesome to see some of my favorites, like the water gardens, again.

Since it was the middle of the day and not really the best light at all for taking photos, I only toted my 50mm lens along (one of these days I'll get out around dusk with the macro lens again) to take a few shots.

The crepe myrtles are in full bloom here right now, and so gorgeous!

And of course we had to stop by the bonsai exhibit. They change the trees out here periodically, and today this crazy little dude was on show.

This one always amazes me- at first it looks like the trunk has been broken, but in reality it's just growing that way.

There was a bit of playing with the koi at the water bridge, as always.

And the figs are starting to ripen! The gardens are totally cool and actually encourage people to try the fruits and vegetables from the various displays, so Darren gets a fig or two every time we visit.

We're going to have to make a point of going here a lot before the cold weather comes back again!
