Cherry blossom season is long gone by now, and I'm finally getting a chance to blog a little about it!
This year the cherry blossoms were really late. As in super duper, I wonder if they're just going to freeze off and not bloom this year late, since it was so unseasonably cold here right up until the very end of March. Finally, though, they started to pop out, and of course I ran straight out with my camera and took eleventy billion photos of them.
I love it when the trees are still full of clusters of really tight buds, with just one or two that have fully bloomed.
Yes, I know, there are a lot of photos here. What can I say- I love cherry blossoms!
It was right around the time that the yoshinos really started to bloom that the weather got cold again. I mean, what gives?!? It also rained a lot, and while I am not a weenie about being out in the rain, I'm not a fan of my camera getting wet. I will admit, I am a total and complete weenie about the cold, though. So I got a few photos of the mid-point of the season, but not very many.
The weeping cherry trees in our yard (one front and one back) also put on a spectacular show this year. The past two years have been growth seasons for them, so there have been more leaves than flowers, but this year that changed and there were soooooo many blooms on them- truly gorgeous!
My favorite cherry tree over by the university was also gorgeous as always this year, and when it gradually started to warm up again toward the end of the season, I'd grab Darren to go for an outdoor run and modify our course to go past it. We also just walked over to a it a few times with my big camera in tow.
There are lots of yoshinos by the lake at UAH, and this year they bloomed about a week later than the rest of the cherry trees in Huntsville- I think because they're in a bit of a basin and don't get quite as much sunlight. So, even though it was cooler than I liked outside, Darren and I still took several walks over to check them out.
And Darren didn't mind at all, because it meant he got to play in the lake a bit. :)
Did I mention that we walked over there quite a lot? :)
Finally, toward the end of the blooming season, it started to warm up again!
Note Darren's lack of a fleece jacket on this trip- it was definitely starting to feel like spring by now!
This is one of the last photos I shot of the cherry blossoms this year, and was actually taken on my iPhone. We'd stop on our running course about halfway through and just walk past them all, then head on out and finish our run.
While I took lots of photos of these lovelies this year, I didn't get to spend as much time enjoying them as I would have liked. Hopefully next year the weather will be more cooperative!
